One of our members of the Berks Warhammer 40K club, as well as friends at the Adventurer's Guild in Harrisburg PA are looking to start up their own variants of the "Tale of 4 Gamers" as seen in White Dwarf magazine.
I have been looking to work on my third Warhammer 40k army, Space Marines for some time now. Alex, the Berks member looking to host this campaign, has requested that we start with a mostly unpainted army. Well, my space marines currently sit with only a 5 man scout force, 2 single marines, 2 rhinos and 1 marine biker fully painted. I guess that qualifies.
My Space Marines are going to be combined units from 2 chapters. I wanted to go with something unusual, so I chose the Lamenters Chapter. They are beleagueed and recovering after redeeming themselves in the Emperor's eyes after their betrayal during the Badab War. The story has them down to 3 companies after a 100 year long crusade against Tyranids.
I'm going to take the story from the 5th company rebuilding, but doing so with the assistance of the 6th company of Salamanders. The reson behind this is 2 fold. 1: I wanted to fluff up the story and expand my ideas. 2: My son wanted "green" space marines too, and I didn't want to spend the money on creating 2 armies.
As for the Adventurer's Guild, they are looking to expand the story into other game systems as well. This may be the perfect time for my son and I to explore Flames of War, as we've been anxiously waiting to delve into that game. I will have to see if time will allow us to pursue 2 of these ventures or not.
